Wine Coolers - A Modern Take on the Wine Cellar

As any wine enthusiast knows, the best way to drink wine is chilled to the correct temperature. The best way to achieve this is with a wine cooler.

What is a wine cooler?

Simply put, a wine cooler is a refrigeration system designed specifically for bottles of wine. They can be quite large or small enough to just hold one bottle. But regardless of type, they all serve the same purpose ¨C to keep your wine cool.

Types of wine coolers

The most common type of wine coolers for your home are small, table-top style coolers. These cool one bottle of wine at a time, and often do so rather quickly. The advantage to a small single bottle wine cooler is that you can chill the wine right before you enjoy it, and donĄŻt have to choose a wine ahead of time. It is also nice when a guest brings a bottle of wine that you want to enjoy immediately. There are also counter-top wine coolers that hold 6-12 bottles of wine. These function much like a mini-refrigerator, but are at the optimal temperature for white wine.

Wine coolers also are available in larger versions, which mimic the temperatures and humidity of a wine cellar. They are usually the size of a small refrigerator, and can hold dozens of bottles of wine (depending on the size of the cooler). They are generally controlled by a thermostat, and keep your wine collection at the optimal temperature. Larger wine coolers will also often have separate zones for white and red wines (which should each be stored at different temperatures).

Why do I need a wine cooler?

While individual tastes vary, most experts agree that white wine should be enjoyed cooled. A wine cooler allows you to chill your wine to the appropriate temperature quickly and easily. And for those who enjoy wine more than a couple of times a month, a larger cooler also allows you to store your bottles of wine to enjoy later. This allows you to collect wine (bottles of wine are often a treasured souvenir from a vacation), store wine in your house, and purchase wine in larger quantities for a lower cost. It keeps your wine at a consistent temperature, which keeps the flavor intact. It is also a much more cost-effective alternative to a traditional wine cellar, and can be designed to match the d¨Ścor of your home. A wine cooler is a must for anyone who collects wine or drinks wine on a regular basis.
