It seems as though the under cabinet wine rack is currently the most popular method of displaying one’s wine collection, and this is primarily because the current way to show things off is to hide them in style. The under cabinet wine rack is the epitome of this stylish trend; it allows one entering the kitchen to see that there is wine being stored there under the island, but this sort of display does not really show off the wine itself, as it does not allow the vintages and the vintners to be read off the label.

Only less sophisticated people will still look to show off the actual quality of the wine they are keeping in their house. Truly sophisticated people assume that it is known that the wine they are storing is good wine; the attempt itself to show it off signals that it must be of inferior quality if it has to prove itself.

Is an Under Cabinet Wine Rack Only for Under Cabinets?

There are many places in modern kitchens where wine racks are being snuck in as an integral part of the construction. Some popular places are a series of holders lining the underside of a centre kitchen island. Underneath the useable top are a set of drawers, and underneath that would be that of the under cabinet wine rack, filling the uppermost space of the centre part of a kitchen island.

Then, on the bottom shelf appliances or mixing bowls and cutting boards can be stored. Sometimes this portion of the island is covered, and sometimes open.

Another integrated spot for a wine rack is literally underneath the cabinets. This is in fact where the name ‘under cabinet wine rack’ originally came from. There is often a lot of space between countertops and the bottom side of hanging wall cabinets, and so nestling wine bottles underneath these cabinets is very popular because the bottles stored there are very accessible, but at the same time they are not in the way at all.

An under cabinet wine rack also stores wine properly, meaning that they store the bottles lying down; wine should never be standing up on your cabinet shelves or in your pantry.

Baker’s racks frequently have a row or two of spots for wine bottles. Frequently, these are found underneath lower shelves, again displaying the presence of the wine without the specifics of it. Sometimes the spot for wine on a baker’s rack is at the very bottom, but these do not actually classify as under cabinet wine racks. By definition they should be on the underside of a drawer, a countertop, or a cabinet. In any case, the modern kitchen has many more options for displaying wine stores.
